TORONTO, Aug. 22 - Forterra Environmental Corp. (TSX-V: FTE-V), an emerging leader in the production and sale of premium organic soil-enrichment products based on worm castings, today announced that it has retained agronomist Tom Ferencevic as a consultant to the company. "We are fortunate to have been able to retain the services of an agronomist with the breadth of experience that Mr. Ferencevic brings to Forterra in areas directly relevant to our operations and strategic growth plans. We expect him to be very active and involved with our development of marketing and sales strategies, product development, and other areas of our operations," said Donald Green, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. In his career, Mr. Ferencevic has focused on applied research and project development in the agriculture/horticulture and bio-energy sectors. He is a founding partner and Vice-President, Environmental Technology for YIELD Inc. and the Founder and President of Sweet Earth Bio-Energy Inc. With YIELD, Mr. Ferencevic implements applied research into biogas optimization and feedstock quality testing, acquires strategic partners in the waste management and composting sectors for organic fuel supply, and is positioning the company's digestate into high-value horticultural products. Prior to launching Sweet Earth Bio-Energy, Mr. Ferencevic worked for government (Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs), worked with the federal government on various projects (Pest Management Centre and Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada), non-government, and private agri-businesses (Cargill AgHorizons, as an agronomist). He has developed and managed research initiatives in renewable energy, environment and pest management. As a research coordinator for the Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers from 2005 to 2007, Mr. Ferencevic developed and managed initiatives aimed at increasing the competitiveness of the greenhouse vegetable sector and coordinated research initiatives in areas of production, environment, energy and pest management. "This experience," noted Rick Denyes, Forterra's President and Chief Operating Officer, "should prove particularly helpful to Forterra as we believe that greenhouse growers will be an important market for us that will create year-round sales opportunities for our company's solid and liquid worm castings soil-enrichment products. As well, he has worked with many individual grape growers in the Niagara wine region and with the grower associations, another group that we believe will be interested in our organic, environmentally friendly soil-enrichment products." Mr. Ferencevic's expertise and experience come from working in an inter-disciplinary environment in areas such as product development and sales, research project development and implementation, funding application, improving market access, and sector competitiveness as well as independent consulting services. He is a graduate of Trent University with a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science. "Before agreeing to be a consultant to Forterra, I reviewed its products and held discussions with its management and Board," Mr. Ferencevic said. "I believe that greenhouse growers both floriculture and vegetable, nurseries, indoor gardeners, garden centers as well as golf courses, will be very interested in the benefits that Forterra's products can offer them or their customers. These products are of the highest quality and will be of particular interest to conventional and organic growers and others with a desire to improve soil and plant health, as well as those seeking to potentially improve both the yield and quality of their crops and products."
About Forterra Environmental Corp.
Forterra manufactures and markets powerful and environmentally friendly soil
enhancers, using worm castings, which boost fertility while restoring the soil
with organic matter for sustainable, longer-term benefits, including stronger
root growth, and drought and pest resistance. Forterra products contain only
organic material. They are ideal for golf courses, sports fields, lawn care,
parks, nurseries, orchards, and vineyards. Forterra produces commercial
quantities of premium worm castings year round at its Toronto plant.
Essentially, Forterra uses red wriggler worms to convert organic waste into
vermicompost or worm castings. Worm castings contain micronutrients, which are
required for healthy plant development. Worm castings also contain microbes,
which increase the rate at which plants take up available macronutrients and
micronutrients.
